This is a "love letter" Robin received from a dear friend, just at the time she needed it! If God puts someone on your heart, don't hesitate to bless them. You just might change their whole day!
Many years ago, I had my own child in the classroom
for the first time. All the way to school that first
morning, he told me what I could do and couldn't do.
I was getting a bit ticked because he was missing the
minor detail that I had already been successfully
paddling this boat for YEARS!
Anyway, in a spirit of perverseness I totally ignored
him in class! All the other kids were SO excited to
be in Mrs. Dupree's class because getting there was a
sort of rite of passage at CHS. Anyway, I covertly
watched him as he watched the others. They laughed at
my corny jokes and were generally tickled to death to
be there. I watched him. He would look at them and
then look at me...me, the one who washed dirty dishes,
folded socks, swept up after everybody and generally
kept the boat floating. But all these other kids were
acting like they actually were thrilled to be there,
like I was SOMEBODY!
Then I saw him look at me...REALLY look at me !!
EPIPHANY!! It was a moment!
Then several years later (same kid), I was appointed
to serve on the board of directors of the Natchitoches
Museum with lawyers, wife of the president of NSU,
movers and shakers of the city and parish. As I was
recounting the events of one of the meetings, he said
in horror, "Mama, do they know who you are?!?" (Read
"who you aren't?") I gently smiled at him and asked,
"Do YOU know who I am?"
Oh, that applies to so many areas of living, doesn't
it? Our families don't know who we are; our dearest
friends see only fragments. We are never really
"appreciated" by anybody except our Father who made us
just the way we are. So, as I folded underwear with
everlasting skidmarks, wiped noses and took the flack
for someone's bad day, I hugged to myself the
knowledge that I was living under an alias. I DID
matter! I WAS somebody!!!
Maybe on this earth we'll get some credit (getting
older and a bit removed from the front lines helps),
but even if we don't, we and God know who we are!!
HALLELUJAH! (Pardon me while I jump up and down!)
Friend, know that you have two admirers who know
your "secret." One of us doesn't really matter. The
other One is so proud of you, He could die! In fact,
He did!
